Safflower

Safflower

Many of your favorite birds will enjoy Safflower, yet Blackbirds, grackles and squirrels typically don't. Offer safflower gradually, mixing it with the seed blends you currently provide, and over time you'll end up with a dining spot for all kinds of birds, including Cardinals, House Finches, woodpeckers, nuthatches and chickadees!

Squirrel Proof Feeders

Eliminator

The Eliminator™ allows you to stop squirrels from eating your seed. Featuring unique, weight-sensitive technology, the feeder's seed ports are closed when a squirrel touches the perch ring. You can set the sensitivity level to also exclude large birds such as pigeons or doves. It's easy to hang, holds about three quarts of seed and is backed with a limited lifetime guarantee.

Fundamentals Squirrel-Proof Feeder

A caged-mesh encloses this feeder, and being weight-sensitive, it will close off access to the seed ports if anything heavier than a large bird lands on it. This feeder is pre-set to the weight of the average grey squirrel. Offer black sunflower or a sunflower-blend for chickadees, woodpeckers, finches, nuthatches and more!

On Guard CageCages

Take delight not only in seeing the finches, chickadees and other colorful birds you enjoy, but also in frustrating the squirrels, grackles, pigeons and starlings. With our On Guard™ cages, you control the size of bird that dines at your feeder. They allow small birds to go in and out to get their seed but stop larger birds and animals from entering. Our cages will fit a variety of feeder styles and sizes including tube feeders, Dinner Bell feeder, suet feeders and cylinder feeders.

Squirrel Baffle DomeSquirrel Baffles

Baffle Above

Hang a dome or baffle above your feeder to prevent squirrels from climbing down to your feeder.  Also acts a weather guard! Available in a variety of sizes and styles, for any feeder. Note: this will not be effective if the feeder is hanging in an area where the squirrel can jump to the feeder from the side.

Baffle Below

By hanging your feeders from a pole, you can attach a squirrel baffle mid-way up the pole that creates a dead-end for squirrels when they try to climb up. The top of the baffle must be at least 5 feet (1.3 metres) above the ground, and the pole set-up itself must be at least 8 to 10 feet (2.2 metres) away from any object from which the squirrel could jump. This is also an effective way to raccoon-proof your feeders when you use an extra-long raccoon baffle. Learn more about the possibilities with our Advanced Pole System.

Thoughtful Feeder Placement: Number 10 of the 12 Elements of a Thoughtful Bird Feeding Station.

Thinking about where to put your feeders can help solve problems such as squirrels jumping to the feeders or window strikes by birds.

Squirrel-proof Zone: Place your baffled bird-feeding station at least ten feet away from other objects that squirrels can jump from to make it unreachable.

Window Strike Zone: To see birds up close, place your setup no more than three feet away from your window. This will decrease the likelihood of birds injuring themselves if they do hit your window. Otherwise, place your setup no less than ten feet away.
