American Goldfinches are perhaps one of the most abundant feeder birds, and are very easy to attract. These small, energetic birds love to eat a specific type of seed called nyjer, which is related to our native thistle plant. 

Not only is it a popular summer bird because of its bright yellow and black plumage, but its lively behaviour makes it very entertaining to watch. Goldfinches are nomadic and move around in flocks. It has been reported that as many as 25 to 100 different goldfinches can visit your feeder in a day!

One of the most entertaining things about Goldfinches is their ability to hang upside down as they feed! With a mesh feeder, the Goldfinches are free to feed in whichever position they wish. A benefit to this feeder is that it limits it to only Goldfinches; other birds such as sparrows are not as comfortable to cling as they feed. Add on a tray to catch any falling seeds or shells. Nyjer Sock
